MOSES AND HOROWITZ KILL IT AT VOLCOM’S ‘WILD IN THE PARKS’

This past weekend Volcom Stone threw their “Wild In The Parks” Skate event
at the Wavehouse Skate Park in Gateway, Durban.

With all eyes on the weather, it turned out Volcom’s prayers for no rain were answered and the competition rolled on under grey foreboding skies. The kids, however, still came pouring in to enjoy the day of fun skating and continued to push themselves higher and harder throughout the day.

The U14 division was the first session to run in the afternoon and these tiny groms were out to impress. Some kids were barely the same height as their boards but were more
than stoked to skate their favourite park for free, as well as score some free boerewors rolls and cooldrinks.

Next up was the open division, in which competitors had 20 minutes to do the best tricks they could on 3 different obstacles around the park. The younger kids were more than happy to see their heroes going for broke, showcasing some amazing skateboarding and illustrating just how deep our South African skating talent runs.

After the Opens there was a Big Air competition with R1000 prize money, sponsored by Redbull, which was one by KFD rider, Yann Horowitz of Umdloti.

Eastpak bags also sponsored a “Bag A Trick” prize, whereby skaters completed the best trick they could on a specific obstacle. This was won by Khule Nia of Durban North.

In the end the U14′s was won by Luis Mateus in which he bagged himself a ton of Volcom gear.

Opens was won by KFD and Volcom team rider, Gavin “Moses” Adams, for some amazing tricks he completed on the day.

Electric Sunglasses also sponsored a prize for “Hype Of The Day” which was duly won by George Von Blerk, claiming him R500 and a pair of sunglasses.

SKATEBOARDING & GRAFFITI IS NOT A CRIME ROUND2

Round 2 of the RVCA ANP (Artist Network Program) event ‘Skateboarding & Graffiti Is Not A Crime’ will be held at Wavehouse this Friday 18 December from 4pm to 10pm.

The event will feature a best trick skate comp, a live art battle, bands like The Mediatators, Pocket Change and Munuvah To Land, as well as DJ’s Paulo Da Bruza and DJ Just Be…?

There will also be an art exhibition by artists such as Kronk, Mak1one, Warren Lewis, Mugnai, Tyler Murphy, Chris Brehem, Senyol, Moöne, Rob Durand, Mors, Ewok, Matt Edwards, Fong, Motel and Jared Aufrichtig and many more.
