OVERBERG ADVENTURE WRAP-UP

We are wrapping up the Overberg Adventure today with round up of the 4 days spent on the road.

Day 1 saw the dudes hitting Caledon…

…finding some rad spots and making some interesting friends at the bar.

After a bit of hairy start to Day 2 in the Botanical gardens…

…it was on to Bredasdorp, where some hammers where thrown, lines filmed and spots discovered

Day 3 saw things heating up…

…especially in this very nice looking ditch that presented itself to the crew.

On the fourth and final day, the boys headed back to Cape Town, stopping off in Caledon again…

There is so much more to find out there than what we have seen in the Magazines and Videos over the past years.

…to finish off some business before getting back to the City.

A big shout out again to KFD Skateboards and Red Bull for making this trip happen.

Look out for the footage from the trip in the upcoming Session and AV DVD’s.

OVERBERG ADVENTURE DAY 4

With the help of Red Bull and KFD Skateboards, Justus Kotze, Moses Adams, Jamie O’Brien and myself (Sam Clark) decided to head out in search of new spots in undocumented towns with the purpose of getting footage for Justus’ Close Up article in AV13 and Mosey’s section in the upcoming Session dvd.

Day Four saw us packing up camp and heading home to Cape Town

but not without another few hours in Caledon to take care of some un-finished business and some more spot searching.

We would like to thank Redbull and KFD again for supporting us on this mission

and urge companies in South Africa to get behind their riders and help them do similar missions to smaller towns around South Africa.

There is so much more to find out there than what we have seen in the Magazines and Videos over the past years.

Keep Rolling!

OVERBERG ADVENTURE DAY 3

With the help of Red Bull and KFD Skateboards, Justus Kotze, Moses Adams, Jamie O’Brien and myself (Sam Clark) decided to head out in search of new spots in undocumented towns with the purpose of getting footage for Justus’ Close Up article in AV13 and Mosey’s section in the upcoming Session dvd.

Day two’s burnt knees got the better of Jamie and Justus.

They decided to cream themselves before heading out for Swellendam.

Enroute we found a pretty gnarly ditch where we spent a couple of hours battling the heat and getting a few clips.

Once we reached Swellendam the rest of the day was spent cooling off by a dam waiting for the temperature to drop.

We decided it would be a much better idea to hit the spots at night when it would be far cooler.

Check back tomorrow for Day 4 of the Overberg Adventure.

If you missed day one you can check it out here and day two over here.

OVERBERG ADVENTURE: DAY 2

With the help of Red Bull and KFD Skateboards, Justus Kotze, Moses Adams, Jamie O’Brien and myself (Sam Clark) decided to head out in search of new spots in undocumented towns with the purpose of getting footage for Justus’ Close Up article in AV13 and Mosey’s section in the upcoming Session dvd.

After waking up a little dazed and confused we quickly packed our tent to escape before the botanical gardens opened at 9.

The next town on the map was Napier.

The big rails at the church had little to offer with a pretty crusty landing which seemed to be a bit much for the first spot of the day.

So we proceeded onto Bredasdorp were it was 40 degrees, perfect skating temperature.

Again we found some really good spots and were taken to the towns skatepark by the local rad mom and her stoked kid.

After a good line filming session back in town it was time to head off to the beaches of Arniston where we did some whale watching and found the local shabeen in the fishing village and settled in for the night.

Next stop Swellendam!

If you missed part one you can check it out over here. Part three coming in the morning!

MOSES ADAMS INTERVIEW

Well done on your placing in the Red Bull Manny Mania contest in New York. Do you think that your trip has had any influence on your skill on a board?
Yeah, I learnt a lot of new stuff that side, just from hanging out with all those guys. I was hanging out with a lot of the pro’s and am’s.

Take us through an average day in the life of Moses Adams.
When I wake up, I take a shower, go to the shop, get some food and stuff, then skate the whole day. After that I usually just chill for a bit, then maybe skate again. Then I’ll get up the next day and go skate again.

How do you feel about skating in the Pro division at the upcoming Maloof Money Cup? Any concerns or reservations, or are you just going to go out there and blow everyone away?
I’m a bit nervous for that. I don’t really know what to expect. I just hope that I can skate the park as well as the pro’s do. It’s going to be a really cool experience, but still kind of scary.

Do you have any plans for the rest of the year, like more filming, photo shoots, touring, etc.?
Well, Volcom said there might be another tour coming up, so I don’t know when that’s happening. I hope soon, because I want to go touring again. It’s just nice going out to other places.

MOSES IN NEW YORK INTERVIEW

Hey Moses. Congrats on coming 15th in the Red Bull Manny Mania Finals in New York.
(Laughs) Thanks man. It was an amazing experience.

What did you enjoy most about New York?
The city itself. Everyone there’s really cool and chilled. They just skate. I saw a couple famous spots. Also, just skating with the pro’s and talking to the pro’s like Brandon Biebel, David Gonzales, Joey Brezinski, Steve Berra… There were a lot of famous pro’s there, just skating and stuff. We stayed at this hotel, number 9 Crosby Street or something. It was this really fancy hotel, and in the hotel there was a strip club. They gave us all gift cards, our own rooms… I shared a room with this one guy from England. The bed was really nice (laughs).

Was there anything about New York that you didn’t enjoy?
Yeah, the cops are a bit strict. You can’t even stand and look at the spot. If they see a board they chase you away.

Who were some of your favorite skaters from the event?
Well I watched the Pro Finals, and Joey Brezinski won. And that guy who came second in the Pro Finals was the same guy who won the Am one. He’s good man. Yeah, I chilled with him… David Gonzales was also skating the comp, and he came third. He was skating really good too. We went to an after-party after that, where there was an open bar and everyone got smashed (laughs). Everyone made this big circle, and everyone was dancing and just having fun. I got to drive in a Cadillac, with big rims and everything… like 50 Cent (laughs). It was crazy.

How did the competition work?
Well, we went to the Red Bull park on the Friday to train, then went back to the hotel, skated and took photos. They split us all up into groups of 2s or 3s, and we went through about eight rounds of skating. The next day, the comp started at 12. We had warm-ups for about 6 minutes, and then a run for 8 minutes, then it went to the next skater.

How was the level of competition there? Did you find it easy, or was it really tough?
The level there, compared to here, is unbelievable. It’s too good. They’re all so good, even the little kids.

The invited skaters did a street mission around the streets of New York. What was it like skating with all those guys from different countries?
It was cool. We just cruised around and I started getting to know them and we started becoming friends you know… Skating around New York, just having fun and stuff like that. Going to bars, looking at hot chicks (laughs)… Yeah, but it was good man. We just went to go check out all the spots in the city, walked around, went to Subway. Then we went back to the hotel, showered, then went out again. I had an awesome time.

What are your plans from here? Are you hoping to go back?
Yeah, they want me to go back. They want me to shoot a video now, and send them the edit. The main guy from Volcom was there, and said I must make a video and send it to them. They want me to come down again soon and tour with the pro’s and stuff.

We heard that David Gonzales was hyped on your skating. What did he say?
Yeah, we were skating and just chilling there, and he said to me, “You’ve got some mad pop.” (laughs). He’s quite short actually, shorter than me. I always thought he was bigger than me, but he’s not. He’s a really cool guy. A rad guy to skate and chill with. I took some photo’s with him. I also took a photo with Brandon Biebel, and he told me I looked familiar. I was like “What!?”.

It must have been crazy to experience all that in such a short period of time, and then come back to South Africa?
Yeah it was crazy man.

Is there anything else you want to say?
I just want to say thank you to everyone who supported me getting out there, and to everyone who helped me, even though I got 15th place. I had a fun time, and I hope that I can go back soon, and stay longer.

Cool, thanks for the interview.
Aweh, shot man.
