Time to get HYPED!….

“In 2011, skate competition will know no borders as Red Bull Manny Mania expands the global series to 34 countries (including 13 new nations). In South Africa, the competition has grown from one event in 2010 to five in four cities this year. Skaters from Cape Town to Klipfontein are invited to show their stuff as part of the largest amateur event of its kind in the country*. The dates and locations for this year’s qualifying events in South Africa are:

• June 4: Son Skate Park (Stellenbosch)
• June 11: Element Skate Park (Jeffreys Bay)
• June 18: Wave House Skate Park, Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga (Durban)
• June 25: Revolution Skate Park, Festival Mall, Kempton Park (Johannesburg)
• June 26: Finals – Revolution Skate Park, Festival Mall, Kempton Park (Johannesburg)

Each participating country will hold qualifying events, selecting athletes to participate in a national final; the winner of which will represent their homeland at the Red Bull Manny Mania World Final for amateurs in New York City on August 20, 2011. The winner of this event will get a chance to step into the big leagues by competing in the invite-only Red Bull Manny Mania Pro Event, on Sunday, August 21 in New York City.

HOW TO ENTER
Either show up on the day or send an email in advance of a qualifying event near you to
RSA-register@redbullmannymania.com with the following information:
- Full given name
- Date of birth
- E-mail address
- Telephone number(s)
- City of the contest you want to enter

‘TRICK-TIONARY’ AND JUDGES
For each event in South Africa there will be a panel of judges selecting the best athletes to compete in the finals, including three legends in the skater community: Puddy Zwenis, Adrian Day and Brendan Body, editor of Session skateboarding magazine. Jean-Marc Johannes – a Red Bull-sponsored skater from Cape Town – will accompany the judging panel across South Africa as an ambassador for the sport. Jean-Marc will also feature in a ‘trick-tionary’ video showcasing what it takes to win at Red Bull Manny Mania, elements of which will be uploaded online in the weeks before and during the qualifying events in South Africa.

According to Jean-Marc: “Manny is a genre of skating that is hugely technical. Guys who make stuff look easy put hours into sticking tricks, so if you’re planning to go to NYC, there’s only one word to remember: PRACTICE!”

Each week, elements of the trick-tionary with Jean-Marc will be shared on www.redbull.co.za to help those new to the sport (and even experienced ‘manny maniacs’), appreciate the skills and subtleties of manual skating.

*Entry into Red Bull Manny Mania is restricted to:
- Anyone age 14 (as of August 21, 2011) or older who is a resident of the country in which the qualifying events are being held.
- Amateur athletes (i.e. those who have entered a contest at the professional level at any point or have had a signature product sold in stores or received royalties from a product are not allowed to enter the competition.)
