PEACHBEACH INTERVIEW

Peachbeach is two-man art and design collective from Berlin, which is as they put it, a sweet village in Germany…

Tell us a little about each of you and how you got to meet each other?
Lars is from a small town in the north-east of Germany where time runs a little slower then elsewhere in Germany. He drawed from his baby-ages on and crashed into Graffiti in his youth. Then he studied art in a small town up north. After this he started studies again, this time in Berlin and this time it was graphic design.

Attila is born in Budapest, and raised up a small town in the near of cologne in the west of Germany. He also started drawing really early and was always fascinated by comics. After school he came to Berlin to study graphic design. That’s the point where we met each other. The first real contact was made at a small class trip to an old barnyard in a beautiful landscape near Berlin. There we partied and painted and realized that we could do something together.

Following up on that question, what does each one of you bring to the collective?
First of all we are big enthusiasts with a big drive to create something on our own. Attila brought his great love for comics and illustrated shirts and Lars brought his love for Graffiti. The mix was made and we really love what came out in the end. We always discover new things that we could do in the future.

How does working and living in Berlin effect your work?
Berlin is great for us. We have a lot of friends who do the same. Big ups to them. This is really important for us cause this keeps you in this special creative mood to go to the next step and kick something new. Also it is the most open city in Germany, the capital of Graffiti, Art, Music and Design. That’s why we feel home here.

Your work has very bright, graphic quality about it. What inspires this?
Everything inspires us! So there’s no answer on this because everything that surrounds you influences your work.

Where and what is your work space?
Our workspace is in the east of Berlin in a district called Lichtenberg. A place which is not typical for artists and stuff. We are pioneers here cause now after one year we can see more and more other artists moving here cause the rents for spaces are cheap and it is a nice quiet place in Berlin. We moved into an old lawyer’s office.

From type design, to murals, to digital illustration to screenprinting, to etching to skateboard graphics. You guys really do it all. How do you approach all these different types of projects?
We just do it. We love to push our minds in new situations, discover new stuff and places. And we also like to do stuff freestyle without a big plan.

Seriously, do you guys ever sleep?
Yes we do a lot. And if we don’t, we party hard :-)

What has been the project that you guys are proudest of?
There are louds of projects we are proud of but honestly after some time we look forward and want to do it better. We love also the small things and the details so it’s hard to say which project we are proudest of.

If you were stranded on a desert island, who would be the last to survive and why?
We would both survive cause we would build a motor yacht to go to the next nice beach were with a bar, and beachgirls and would chill there. Or maybe something else, haha.

Apart from doing all the crazy things that Peachbeach puts out, what else do you guys like to do?
First of all we both love music. Attila even more causes his DJing and produces music on his own. Lars graff’s a lot in old abandoned places and we both love to hang out with friends and party with them.

If we were to walk into the studio, what sort of music would we hear?
Bass-Music, Rave, Dubstep, Psychedelic Rock, Worldmusic, Soul, Funk, Dub, Rap, Humppa, Techno, Drum ‘n Bass, Balkanbeats and some other great stuff.

How has 2011 been to the Peachbeach and what is 2012 looking like?
2011 was pretty much alot of good work and a hell of alot of fun. We were at so many different places and met so many much nice people that we hope 2012 will rock the same like this. Or even more.
