So why break up the old band and start a new one with a similar sound and members?

The Revelators broke up for various reasons. First of all, Daniel (the drummer) wanted to move to England after his studies and we didn’t want to stand in his way. Personally, the band had to come to an end because all of us felt the need for a change. It was the right time to bring the project to an end.

If we came back as an electro project, it would’ve been a bit odd if you ask me. So on us having a similar sound: our influences didn’t change much, although our approach did. The Revelators’ sound was focused on a raw, energetic delivery of stripped down garage with a strong punk undertone, while The Future Primitives aspire to write songs with a pop sensibility – it’s more melodic as opposed to driven.

The Future Primitives is our way of experimenting with early garage and psychedelic sounds, pop elements from the 60s, and a bit of noise.

How did you guys come up with Future Primitives?

The name was inspired by Robert Mailer Anderson’s novel, Boonville. The Future Primitives appealed to us conceptually, as we are influenced by older sounds and fascinated by taking the primitive aspects of rock n roll and portraying it in a modern form.

How have the shows been thus far?

We missed playing live, so the first show was as exciting as it was nerve wrecking. The Future Primitives have had a good practice run thus far and we are certainly beginning to find our feet on stage. So yeah, it’s been pretty good so far.

You guys seem to walk a fine line between super grungy, underground and mainstream, popular alternative music. Would you agree and where do you guys feel you fit best?

In a different time. We are greatly influenced by rockabilly, early rock n roll, garage, surf and psychedelic music. We are basically a mish-mash of everything we love about music.

Desillusion magazine and Nixon proudly present their latest video instalment “This is Andrew”, a video portrait paying tribute to US street skateboarder Andrew Reynolds.

Growing up in a small town in Florida, Andrew started skateboarding at a very young age. Due to his exceptional talent – Reynolds won the first contest he ever entered – he drew the attention of the skate industry and landed on some of the top sponsored teams as a teenager. Following Tony Hawk and others to the Californian epicentre of skateboarding at the age of 18, he met fellow skateboarders like Jim Greco, Ali Boulala and Knox Godoy, later on known as the “Pissed Drunx”, ruling the streets of LA.

Years of money, fame, and fast living follow, until Reynolds aka “The Boss” became the first one to reach a turning point in his life. Going down the hard road of rehab and recuperation, he managed to rise back on track maintaining his skill, style and laid back approach. With his part in Emerica’s “Stay Gold” Andrew again impresses the skateboarding community, fans and friends, showing the world how far stern determination and true passion can lead you.

“This is Andrew” is a thoughtful portrait of one of the most intriguing personalities skateboarding has seen. In some unprecedented interview footage Reynolds shares what inspires him and made him change his lifestyle, his love for skateboarding and deep loyalty to his friends.

After the great success of “This is Trouble”, a short movie portraying snowboarder and musician Trevor “Trouble” Andrew that was launched this past February ( vimeo.com/nixoneurope/troubleandrew ), “This is Andrew” is the second tribute video Nixon x Desillusion magazine dedicate to one of their most influential inspirations in the board sports scene. The video comes along with the latest issue of Desillusion magazine featuring Andrew Reynolds as an exclusive guest editor, available from Monday, 16th of April, 2012.

This just in from the international artist ABOVE, who recently spent some time working in South Africa:

“Africa has had a devastating history of blood diamond wars. Blood diamond refers to a diamond mined in a war zone and then sold to finance an invading army’s war efforts, usually in Africa where more than two-thirds of the worlds diamonds are extracted. This site specific social / political word play was painted on the exterior wall of Johannesburg’s largest diamond trader Jewel City. Jewel City is a six-block mega-precinct that serves as a base for some 300 diamond traders as well as South Africa’s Diamond Board and State Traders Association. Jewel City is the largest diamond exporter in the southern hemisphere with over R7-Billion worth of Diamonds being exported every year.

I was able to get away with this diamond wall heist because I told the owners I would paint in big letters “Diamonds are a woman’s best friend” on the exterior of their building. The owners loved the idea and all quickly agreed. The next day I had started painting but what the owners didn’t know is that I lied to them and was hijacking their wall. Like any premeditated robbery, situations are not what they seem and shit can flip from best friends to worst enemies in a few moments.

I assume the owners were too busy trading diamonds inside the mega centre they never took the time to come out and see I was painting a controversial word play about the diamond trade and how it’s fueled so much bloodshed in wars making it one of man’s worst enemies.”
